Agencies at The Sanctuary
The Following Agencies provide services to
residents in Eastern Knox County. Agencies administer
their individual services. Sanctuary Community Action
provides each agency with access to the facility--The Sanctuary.
All agencies and services are located at The Sanctuary, 302 S

Danville Interchurch - Open Daily with a permanent
location in facility (740) 599-5673
Interchurch
provides emergency food, clothing and financial assistance.
They also accept donation of clothing, bedding, kitchen
items, small household items for their thrift shop--The
Church Mouse. Their hours are Monday through Friday
and the 1st Saturday of the month 10am to 3pm. From April
through mid-December open on Tuesday evenings until 8pm.

Adult Basic Literacy Education (ABLE) - One night per

Classes are under
the direction of Knox County Career Center Adult Education.
This program provides the opportunity for adults who do not
have a high school diploma to obtain the GED high school
equivalent certificate. This program is free of
charge. Classes are held one night per week during the
academic school year.

Women Infant and Children (WIC)
Provides
nutrition education and grocery assistance for families
with children under age 5, expectant mothers and/or
nursing mothers. Proper nutrition is vital for
development prior to birth, during the nursing period as
well as infants and small children. There is a liberal
income requirement.

Immunization clinic
All children
need to receive the necessary immunizations prior to
attending kindergarten as well as the necessary booster
immunizations. There is no fee for immunizations
but if possible, families are encouraged, but is not
required, to contribute $10 per visit.

New Directions
Domestic Abuse Shelter of Knox County - Domestic Abuse
Counseling
Provides
individual or group support to those living in or desiring
to 'escape' from an abusive situation. The agency also
assists families needing housing and emotional support
during time of crises. Please contact 740-397-4357 any time

Southeastern
Ohio Legal Aid - One afternoon per month
Southeastern Ohio Legal Services (SEOLS), offers free
civil legal services to Knox County citizens meeting income requirements.
Individuals 65 years of age and older, services are free. Among the services provided are advice and/or legal representation
in housing matters, domestic relations matters, public benefits denials,
consumer matters, simple wills and probate matters, powers of attorney and
Social Security matters. SEOLS will be interviewing clients at The Sanctuary in
Danville on the fourth Friday of each month from 2:30pm to 4:30pm. It is
preferable that anyone needing legal services call to complete an application
over the phone and to schedule an appointment at The Sanctuary. However, we also
handle request for service at The Sanctuary from people who have not called in
advance. Interviews can be conducted over the phone when the legal
problem cannot wait until our next scheduled interview day.
Our Newark office
serves both Knox and Licking counties and is located at 12 W Locust St, Newark,
Ohio. Office hours are 8:30am to 5pm Monday through Friday. The office is
closed from 12 noon to 1pm for lunch. The Newark phone number for Southeastern Ohio Legal Services
is toll free, 1-888-831-9412. The office is equipped with a voice mail system.

Sanctuary
Community Action coordinated programs

Lifeline
Screening--annual screening for blockages contributing
to stroke, heart attack and aneurysms. Also check for
osteoporosis. There is a nominal fee. For more

Safety Town - For children entering kindergarten
each fall. Knox County Health Department collaborates with
Sanctuary Community Action in implementing this program.

Children in
Danville and East Knox school districts learn basic safety
skills during the 3 morning sessions. Classes are held
in the Danville Middle/Elementary building during the month
of June or July. Professionals work with the children
in teaching them safe procedures for crossing the street,
riding their bicycle, the proper use of emergency 911,
behavior and safety on the school bus to mention a few
areas. Songs, videos and crafts help to reinforce the safety
issues. Teen volunteers work with the children in the
individual group classrooms. Healthy snacks are provided
during the sessions. Registration forms are included in each
school's kindergarten orientation packet each spring.

Women's Health
Clinics - Routine Pap and Clinical Breast Exams and
Mammograms

Pap and Clinical
Breast Exams in cooperation with KnoHoCo Ashland Women's
Health Services. A nominal fee is charged to cover lab
costs for Pap. KnoHoCo accepts medical card (not medicare or
insurance)

Mobile Mammogram
unit from Boardman Ohio--The MammoVan. The mobile unit
accepts insurance, medicare, medicaid and self pay.
Region 5 Breast
and Cervical Cancer Project is available to provide
financial assistance for women with no insurance.
Sanctuary Community Action has been awarded a grant from
United Way of Knox County to assist those not eligible under
Region 5 if financial assistance is needed. These
clinics are open to all women in Knox County. For more
